Levent Marali Profile Picture

Levent Marali is a contemporary ceramic artist based in northern France. Working primarily with stoneware, his practice explores the silent echoes of memory, time, and thought — shaping vessels that hold what words cannot.

Each piece is handbuilt using traditional coiling techniques, decorated with natural oxides, and finished with a glazed interior. His forms range from narrow-necked to open, sculptural containers — each one a singular memory distilled into shape.

Although the colors are carefully chosen, the final outcome is always touched by the unpredictable nature of fire and clay. This balance between control and chance defines Marali’s process, which is rooted in slowness, repetition, and quiet construction.

He continues to explore new natural oxide combinations through ongoing material testing, seeking unexpected color variations.

For him, every memory carries its own tone — and each surprising color becomes a reflection of a moment once felt but never fully grasped.

Avoiding molds entirely, he allows for irregularity, asymmetry, and authenticity to emerge in every piece.
These works are titled Memory Vessels — forms that carry, preserve, or simply let memory breathe.

From his studio in northern France, Levent creates ceramic pieces that are not just objects, but silent witnesses to the inner life. Some are made to hold, others to remain suspended — as if memory itself could take space, or hang still in time.
